If you arrive late for your appointment we may not be able to proceed with the examination. We try to keep waiting times to a minimum and hope to have your understanding if there is a delay.

Please call us as soon as possible on 020 8383 0595 to confirm that you intend to keep this appointment.

If you are pregnant, or are breast feeding, please contact us for advice before your appointment.

The procedure

The test takes about 2 and a half hours to complete. You will be given an injection of a radioactive tracer (material that can be followed through the body by the radiation it produces).

You will then be asked to rest quietly for 1 hour to allow the tracer to be properly distributed throughout the body. You will then be scanned. The scan itself takes approximately 20 minutes. After that you may go home.

After Care

You will need to avoid close contact with pregnant women, babies and small children for the rest of the day.
